So, which EquiPod program is right for your horse?

HORSES IN OCCASIONAL TO LIGHT WORK
This horse is only ridden occasionally, or is just beginning their training program. On average, you will be riding this horse lightly about 1-3 hours per week. Your goal is to provide support to maintain healthy joints and tissues to avoid problems in the future, as well as relief after exercise since they may be sore. For example, if you haven’t exercised in a long time and then workout, you definitely feel it the next day; so does your horse. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, or DOMS. DOMS can be alleviated by applying the EquiPod to where your horse needs it the most, whether the muscles along the back or legs.

Recommendation:

  • Repair and Recovery – use the KorBand on the back for 30-60 minutes after exercise.
  • Maintenance and Wellbeing – use the KorWrap on the legs for 30-60 minutes, 1-2 times per week on rest days to maintain healthy joints and tissues.

Helpful Tip:
You can hook your horse up with a session any time you are in the barn doing chores. We find it’s great to run a session while they’re eating some hay in their stall. You can easily track the progress with your phone as you go about getting things done!

HORSES IN MODERATE WORK
This horse is consistently in training with an increased workload. On average, this horse is ridden 3-5 hours per week. Keeping your horse on a regular exercise routine is very important for their overall health and performance. Common issues that arise with this moderate level of exercise include tendon and ligament stress. Your goal is to support joints and soft tissue under day-to-day stress to prevent injury, improve performance, and alleviate DOMS.

Recommendation:

  • Repair and Recovery – use the KorWrap after each training session 30 min per hind leg.
  • Maintenance and Wellbeing – use the KorBand or KorWrap for 30-60 minutes, 1-2 times per week on rest days to maintain a healthy back, joints, and tissues.

Helpful tip:
The EquiPod mobile app can run up to 4 treatment protocols at a time. Having an additional EquiPod device and KorWrap will allow you to treat both front legs or back legs at once. This can reduce the total time spent treating your horse.

HORSES IN HEAVY TO INTENSE WORK
This horse is a professional athlete or working horse. Their workload is 5+ hours per week of strenuous activity. Your horse takes their job very seriously and you want to make sure to provide aggressive support for their joints, tendons, and ligaments while addressing any discomforts. The goal is to keep this horse sound and at peak performance levels.

Recommendations:

  • Repair and Recovery – use the KorWrap 30 minutes per leg post workouts.
  • Maintenance and Wellbeing – use the KorBand for 60 minutes on rest days.
  • Pain Management – use either the KorWrap, KorBand, or electrode gel pads for 60 minutes near the injury as needed to alleviate pain.

Helpful Tip:
We like to use a combination of treatments to optimize recovery and minimize pain if your horse is struggling with a chronic soft tissue injury. For example: use the KorWrap on the hocks for 30 minutes on Pain Management, leave the KorWrap right where it is, and switch to Repair and Recovery for the last 30 minutes.

INJURED HORSES
This horse has sustained a soft tissue injury and may be on stall rest. They may have had a recent surgery or wound, requiring vigilance and extra care from you to help them recover and stay comfortable. Your goal is to reduce your horse’s discomfort and dependence on pain meds, enhance recovery, and prevent secondary issues from arising. With the EquiPod Equine Therapy System, the power is in your hands.

Recommendation:

Pain Management and Repair and Recovery – alternate between these two modes using the KorBand, KorWrap, or electrode gel pads near the site of injury for 30-60 minutes, 1-3 times a day. Treatments can be done every 4-6 hours to help manage pain and discomfort.

Example: Place a dime sized amount of gel in the center of each electrode gel pad. Then place one electrode gel pad on either side of the sutures and wrap with vet wrap to hold the EquiPod device and pads in place. Start with Pain Management for 30 minutes and switch to Repair and Recovery for the last 30 minutes.

*Don’t place any accessories directly on open wounds, instead get the accessories as close to the site as possible.
*Always work alongside your veterinarian to optimize treatments, as other measures may be necessary to ensure successful recovery.

Helpful Tip:
While it’s tempting to run the EquiPod’s microcurrent all day every day trying to speed the healing process up, it’s just not necessary. Nor is it more effective than doing up to 3, 30-60 minute sessions spaced out in a day. Your horse will feel the benefits of each session throughout the day, which will help keep them more comfortable and less stressed.
